WIDA International School Consortium

This summer, we have been working hard to review and revise our curriculum to best meet the needs of all our students. Upon doing so, we realized we needed to do more for our non-English speaking students and families. To aid in the social and educational development of our ESL (English as a Second Language) students, we have developed our first English for Speakers of Other Languages Policy/Program, also known as the ESOL Policy/Program. This program is designed for students who are not yet fluent in English. This least restrictive program keeps the ESL student included in the general education classroom. It includes a comprehensive language exam to ensure the student is getting the correct amount of aid, specific and research-based language accommodations in the classroom, and a student plan with rigorous progress monitoring.

The policy works together with the WIDA testing materials. WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) is an educational consortium that implements standards, assessments, and accommodations for ESL students. Becoming a member of the WIDA International School Consortium allows us to stay up to date with current research in teaching ESL students and provide the best for our students.

We hope this new policy and program will allow us to be an even more inclusive school as we continue to learn from each other’s’ diverse backgrounds and grow together in God’s glory.
